When I Was a Newbie

by PotPieGirl on March 17, 2010 · 62 comments

…It Bothered Me, Too

Once upon a time, I was a newbie – a broke newbie at that. I absolutely absorbed any and all free information I could get my hands on. I was on tons of lists in hopes that they would each give me one more little piece of the internet marketing puzzle so it would all start to work for me. There was one list in particular that I LOVED (and still do), but suddenly, that list owner started to push Wealthy Affiliate and I started to lose interest in their emails. So now, I imagine YOU are wondering why *I* promote Wealthy Affiliate. Fair question… and one I’d like to talk about today.

Summary: After 3+ years of membership at Wealthy Affiliate, I can safely and honestly say that WA is THE best place to be to learn and exceed with internet marketing. Read my Complete Wealthy Affiliate Review

It’s a Jungle Out There

jen-lee-monte-carloLearning internet marketing, especially the way *I* went about it at first, is tough. It’s a jungle out there full of shiny things, “get rich quick” offers, and lots of bad information. When I first started trying to learn, I would sign up for any list that even hinted at giving some of that good information away.

Inevitably, the list owner would try and sell me something – and that’s ok, I know that’s how this all works. Besides, who here wants to work for free? Yes, giving things away and helping people is GREAT…that is super important to me, it gives me a nice “warm fuzzy” feeling that lets me know I am living my life on the right path for me.

However, I can’t recall the last time our mortgage company would accept a “Warm Fuzzy” as payment!

(makes me think of that gum commercial where the guy offers to pay the babysitter in gum….I’m not thinking my mortgage company would be near as excited as that babysitter was…lol!)

But – when you don’t have the money to buy some of the answers, it is FRUSTRATING. That feeling of “If I only had money, I could figure all this out” gets stuck in your gut – and it kinda hurts.

It starts this whole cycle of – “I don’t have money, I’m trying to learn HOW to make money, but I don’t have the money to learn – why can’t someone just tell me FOR FREE and STOP asking me to buy stuff?!?!?

Oh, I’ve been there….yes I have.

So back on topic – this particular list owner started in with the Wealthy Affiliate thing – and I became disenchanted. Thankfully, I kept reading the emails from this list owner, but I still couldn’t hear what they were trying to tell me. Finally, one day in July 2008, I got it – and I joined WA.

I struggled with the decision of whether or not to pay $39 a month for that membership – really struggled. Now, in hindsight, I’m SO glad I chose to make the choice to give it a try and see what it was all about.

I was an active member of Wealthy Affiliate for about 8 months before I said anything about WA here on my blog.

Why?

Because I wanted to be sure of what it was all about. I wanted to know that *I* would choose to stay and be an ACTIVE member in that community and that *I* found real value in the tools and training.

Promoting something just for the sake of an income stream is not how I wanted PotPieGirl.com to be – or to be seen.

I believe in Wealthy Affiliate – I am proud to be a member of WA, too. If that changes, you can be sure I’ll speak up.

I also know deep inside that when someone is new to internet marketing, or is ready to take their efforts to the next level, that WA is a GREAT place to be.

Let’s Break This Down

Let’s break this down a little. There are a lot of great products and great tools out there that can make your online efforts better.

Each month, I could tell you about one product or one tool that can help you – and good stuff, too. And many people would be out there buying ONE piece of the puzzle and spending $30, $40, $50 and more each month for that ONE PIECE…

Or…

They can get a LOT of the pieces (if not MOST of the pieces) for $39 each month (tools, training, services, AND the community).

Do I make money off of it? Yes, I do – I’d make money whether someone opted to get the single piece of the puzzle each month thru me or if they opted to join Wealthy Affiliate thru me.

It doesn’t make sense to me to offer one piece of the puzzle at a time – even if *I* make MORE doing it that way – than recommending a complete package that I believe in AND participate in.

And that’s the thing, I don’t just PROMOTE Wealthy Affiliate, I RECOMMEND it.

wealthy affiliate group in vegasI recently came back from a trip to Vegas with Wealthy Affiliate. Yup, it was a great time – yup, it was cool to be spoiled – yup, it’s awesome to be able to say I was honored with an invitation for that trip AND to sit around a table with some I consider to be OUTSTANDING marketers (and people).

The BEST part of my trip to Vegas was being able to sit down, face-to-face, with the owners of WA (Kyle and Carson). I got to speak with them and hear from them what they are trying to accomplish with WA – what their visions are – what they hope to achieve – and that had a huge impact on me. Their values are very much in line with what *I* want to achieve online.

They were also very much about helping me better ME – Not just how I can promote them better, but helping me be better with my online marketing and improving my results.

That meeting in Vegas could have turned out to be one big “YAY, Wealthy Affiliate!” pep rally-type thing, but it didn’t. It WAS about making each of us better in this industry as a whole. Kyle and Carson give like crazy – their site is massively under-priced – but they want it that way. They want what they offer to be attainable to anyone who needs it.

Is Wealthy Affiliate Right For EVERYONE?

No, Wealthy Affiliate is not right for everyone. I’d be hard-pressed to come up with a learning/tools community that IS right for EVERYONE. We all learn differently and have different goals. All I know is that I chose the Wealthy Affiliate path – and have no intention of coming off that path. It was – and IS – right for me.

There are also readers here that HAVE been Wealthy Affiliate members – and they hated it. Some may have even had a bad experience with WA. I’m sorry it went that way, and I can understand why you don’t like me talking about it.

Others have joined and then quit because they didn’t feel it was the right place for THEM. That’s great, in my opinion, you tried it and it wasn’t what YOU needed. You didn’t base your decision off what others said (including ME), you made the best decision for yourself based off your own experience.

My goal is for each of you to be able make the best choices for YOUR online business and for YOU that you can. Internet Marketing is a strange little industry. You really can’t take the word of what others say about tools and services – you need to try them yourself.

My Video From Las Vegas

I made a video while I was in Vegas. I’m not big on the “getting in front of the camera and talking” thing, but something moved me while we were there that last day that compelled me to do it.

Many of you might know that I love to play tournament-style Texas Hold ‘Em poker (like what they play in the Main Event in the WSOP – World Series of Poker). Now, there are all kinds of poker to be played, but tournament-style (like the Main Event) is playing until one person has all the chips. It’s very challenging – involves a good bit of skill and the ability to read people.

Anyway, Binion’s HorseShoe in old, downtown Vegas is where the WSOP originated. Downtown Vegas is not NEARLY as “shiny” and glitzy as The Strip in Vegas (where we stayed) – but I love going down there. It’s rich in history and a bit more “real” for my taste (if you can call Las Vegas “real”…lol).

So, our last day there, we went down to old Vegas. Through-out our trip, we talked to many dealers, servers, hotel employees, cab drivers, etc and we kept hearing a recurring theme that had to do with the economy and how badly it was hurting Vegas – and hurting the very real people that count on Las Vegas to make their living and support their families.

When we got to “old” Vegas, it all really slapped me in the face how BAD things are. I saw WAY too many people working that should be retired. I saw WAY too many “things to do” in Vegas with very few people doing them (not just gambling, but restaurants, attractions, etc).

Then, I walked into one well-known place for me that we have been before – and I could really see in a large scale what was happening. The room was EMPTY – abandoned. The emptiness I show in this video is not just a lack of customers – it also represents a LOT of people that are without jobs.

There are so many people working that should be retired and so many more people that also need to work, but they can’t GET a job.

And that is not just Las Vegas – that is the state of my country.

And *I* had just spent a spoiled week in Vegas because of the blessings internet marketing has given me – and I suddenly became very moved and very THANKFUL to be a part of Wealthy Affiliate.

Now, just a note: I am a goober. Seriously…. I’m an odd bird at times…lol! But this video might lag here and there when you watch -and it makes me appear to be an even BIGGER goober. I’m also not used to being in front of the camera and I think it shows.

However, I’m posting this video anyway – maybe someone can hear my message.

By the way, if you are already a Wealthy Affiliate member, Kyle and Carson just posted more videos from our Vegas trip. Those videos and a trip summary are here.

To sum up – when you believe in something and are thankful for the value it added to YOUR life, you talk about it – you can’t help it.

I know there are some that read here that don’t like me talking about it. In fact, thank you for mentioning it in comments on yesterday’s post because it helped me remember that I wanted to do a post on this very topic. THANK YOU!

I know I can’t please everyone – hard as I try, I just can’t. However, I can talk about what I believe to be good things for others to check out and try out for themselves. I believe in Wealthy Affiliate, so I talk about it.

Will Wealthy Affiliate Work For YOU?

I sure hope Wealthy Affiliate works for you, but obviously, I can’t guarantee a thing regarding your online business. As I’ve said many, many times – there is no “get rich quick” available out there. This is a business that takes work and constant action (not much different from any other business).

Wealthy Affiliate is NOT a “magic pill” – you get out of it what you put into it (again, like any other business or education situation).

So I don’t know if WA will work for you. The only way YOU can know is by taking a chance on Wealthy Affiliate and finding out for yourself.

Ok, that’s enough about that =)

Other Stuff

Wow, yesterday’s post sure got a LOT of insightful feedback – 200+ comments in less than 24 hours….Wow, thank you! Please, if you’d like to comment on that post, be sure to leave that comment ON that post. I’d like to leave that topic there and move on.

Otherwise, we are headed out for Oregon early Thursday morning. This trip is for my hubby’s new business – and we are both so excited! Also, I’ve never been to Oregon before so I am looking forward to the trip as a whole.

Once we get back, I’ll be off to work on the website and promotion of his new business so I might be quiet for awhile (IF I am CAPABLE of being quiet….lol), but I’ll still be around.

Other than that, I hope everyone knows I have a new, FREE, online course out. I worked many long nights on it and it seems to be really helping people. It’s called The DAM Way – and it’s specifically written for those brand new to internet marketing, those that have very little time, and/or those that can’t seem to get started.

If that’s you, you can read The DAM Way at thedamway.com.

Finally I want to say that you all are a GREAT bunch of people and I appreciate all of you very much!

Very insightful and moving video Jennifer. Thanks for sharing.

Joan Adams March 17, 2010 at 3:06 am

And I am one of those seniors who should be “retired”, but find myself on line, and while I love it, it would be much more fun if I did not feel so pressured to make cash to help ends meet a little easier.

So I am off to read The Dam Way — and see if this can be the week it works for me. I am convinced that I will eventually hit the tipping point.

Thank you for all your great advice — and let us know when you can come back to Giant Squid Open Mike. We’d love to have you!

Tiffany March 17, 2010 at 3:13 am

I belonged to Wealthy Affiliate last year for 2 months but certain circumstances at the time prevented me from being able to afford the membership anymore. I have been thinking about revisiting Wealthy Affiliate as it I did like the community aspect of it as well.

Steve March 17, 2010 at 3:16 am

Man, I still haven’t watched myself talk. I’m going to avoid watching it for as long as possible. If you think you look like a goober in front of the camera, I can’t even imagine what you think of me haha.

Debbie March 17, 2010 at 3:24 am

Ahhhh, this is the Jennifer I know and love! Very moving video. Shocking scene in the poker room, being so empty. Hey, you are waayy better on video than you think you are.

Great stuff about Wealthy Affiliate. I’ve been a member for almost a year and it’s the most amazing community.

Cheers

Nevada Stone March 17, 2010 at 3:40 am

Hi Jennnifer

You are so not a goober! I have parents that are in the postion you are speaking of and I could ust as easly wind up there myself. I love WA; unfortantly I have temparaly given up on IM to go back to work full time. My mom is still working at it but doesn’t quite comprehend it… yet. Thank You for your help and encouragement. You do a wonderfull service to so many. Your video is very touching.

Bruce March 17, 2010 at 3:42 am

Hi Jennifer…this is in it’d own way one of your best videos. Ties together the current bad economy in LV with the need for all of us to build independent businesses to weather these storms.

Like you, I love Las Vegas, and its sad to see people struggling so much out there….

…..of course, it doesn’t help that our president REPEATEDLY disses the city, every opportunity he has.

Luis Carrillo March 17, 2010 at 4:02 am

Nice video,
I think that people haven’t succeeded in wealthy affiliate because they never had the belief that this was gonna be a learning resource that they must implement to see results . And maybe they wanted some magic program.
I am not a WA member but would definitely try it in the near future, and see if it meets my needs.
Its nice to see that you are not just promoting something because it will support your financial needs, you endorse it because you believe in it because it has helped you.
Thanks for being honest.

Julie March 17, 2010 at 4:12 am

Jennifer,

This is why people are continually drawn to you – it’s your beautiful soul. Your video really touched my heart and I could feel just how pained you were while you were talking about how empty that room was.

I’ve been to Vegas many times in my life and I must say that what you showed me was truly shocking. It’s NEVER been that empty!!!

By the way – anyone who hasn’t signed up for
The DAM Way – stop waiting! It’s an amazing program which has already started to generate some income for me and I’m only on the 1st day!

Jennifer – Bless you and all you do for me!

PotPieGirl March 17, 2010 at 4:21 am

@ Fred- Thank you!

@ Joan – I know it, sweetie. I’m always thinking about you and your super-golfer hubby =)

Thank you for the invite to come back – always a great time!

@ Tiffany – I hope you consider re-joining us in the near future! I’m also a big fan of the community in WA

@ Steve – I already watched your video inside WA – nice job! It’s not easy watching yourself, I get that TOTALLY! I wish you would do more videos because you have a LOT to offer.

@ Debbie – I sure hope I’m even 1/10th better on camera than I think I am – I am my own worst critic! Thank you!

@ Nevada Stone – Thank you! I’m glad your mom is still sticking with it. Tell her to keep her chin up and keep moving forward.

@ Bruce – It’s really bad out there in L.V. – and yes, our Presidents comments have not helped a THING. The number of conventions held in Las Vegas has dropped dramatically, from what I am told, and it is REALLY taking a toll on those that count on them to make a living and feed their families. It’s really sad.

But, yes, it really is up to each of us now to protect our futures the best we can. There is no such thing as “security” anymore when you work for someone else.

Thanks for your kind words!

@ Luis – WA has definitely helped me. I hope you will consider joining us someday when it is right for you.

@ Julie – THANK YOU! And wait just a minute…. you’re still on your first day working The DAM Way and you’re already making money? Are you serious?!?! That is so awesome! Congrats!

Thanks for reading all!

Jennifer

Jordie March 17, 2010 at 4:36 am

WOW! What a moving video… I feel your pain… you have the ability to reach right through the lens with your eyes and connect and that goes far beyond what most goobers can do! Thanks for you input and I am all ears! (Especially with your hubby’s new biz!) Congrats! OR is beautiful!!!

Jim C March 17, 2010 at 4:51 am

From your comments you do not like to do a personal video because you are such a goober. If speaking from your heart and doing things with integrity and always trying to help others is what you call a goober then I want to be a goober.

Please continue to be that Go-Giver and you will see stratospheric success !

My most sincerest thank you.

Speculation Rules March 17, 2010 at 4:53 am

I last played in that room when the WSOP was still held there. You had to wait for a seat, wandering around until your name was called.

I signed up for WA through you (as BFuniv), and even if I don’t use it, WA has affirmed my belief that it is still possible to make a living from the internet. I signed up for a year, it’s less expensive/month – and it reflects a commitment to keep learning – I’m too cheap to waste the money.

Jason Call March 17, 2010 at 5:16 am

Jenifer… I Got your message..
I used to be a Rounder and make my living from Brick and mortar poker. The games have Dried Up badly and the fish have swam upstream.. even the small No limit games are all pros…
WPT has been hit hard too…
Gotta find a new way!! IM is it for me!! Good post!

PotPieGirl March 17, 2010 at 5:39 am

@ Jordie – Thank you! We are both so excited, too. Finally, a totally self-employed family. We’ve worked hard to get here – we feel it’s the only real way to have a chance at a secure future.

Can’t wait to see Oregon!

@ Jim – Guess I’m a Go-Giver Goober…Maybe I can start a club? lol! Thanks so much for your kind words!

@ Speculation Rules – Wow, I woulda loved to play there then – that’s history, very cool! Even when we were there just 4 years ago, you still had to wait for a seat (and it was that way at most poker rooms we visited across the country). It’s really sad now.

@ Jason – A Rounder, huh? VERY cool! But no, I imagine business isn’t very good now. And all this time I worked so hard to NOT be a fish anymore….sheesh.

Binions moved their poker room into the old sports book room. MUCH smaller. We played in a guaranteed tournament (He did well, I was out pretty quickly after taking a bad beat. Ok, truth is I played it horribly!). Even that tournament only had 3 or 4 tables….and MAYBE 4 other tables were playing other stuff. Really sad.

IM does suit us, doesn’t it? For me, golf, Hold ‘Em, and IM are all very similar. Those 3 things also show that I am a glutton for punishment! lol!

Thanks for reading!!

Jonathan March 17, 2010 at 5:40 am

Great video Jennifer. Inspirational to say the least and one that I identify with. Your actually one of my internet marketing icons I have followed since reading your posts in the Wealthy Affiliate forums, way back when I first WA in joined in August 2008! Don’t worry, your looking great in the video! I agree, (but not because I am Canadian as our WA hosts, Kyle & Carson) that Wealthy Affiliate has incredible value for people who want to learn and understand about earning money online and you sum it up nicely. It looks like there are a few more people at the Vegas conference this year. I am earning a little bit of money online already but one of my pitfalls is that I am fairly scattered with my internet marketing efforts. But perhaps the allure of the Vegas conference should sharpen my focus. Besides, I do believe Wealthy Affiliate is one the best, (in all fairness I do not know nor claim to know what the best is for anyone and or everyone, but I can suggest!) internet-affiliate marketing training courses for anyone who wants to know where to start…aside from One Week Marketing of course. LOL. Seriously you always have good, sensible and intelligent stuff to share with your readers and I know because I am one of them. With internet marketing there is so much information to process and with learning IM, that IS quite a task. And you can easily get way distracted from focus and achieving goals and you talk about this. You have been through it from the start. I think your readers are fortunate to have you as a mentor and guide. Kudos to you for making it to Vegas! Maybe if I keep my focus and work hard I’ll get there next year. Sorry for the long post but I just felt moved seeing that you joined WA a month before I did but the difference was you kept the focus, the passion and the determination and I did not so much. This only shows you that success online is achievable if you work hard enough for it and the pay off is no less than life changing. It is unfortunate that there are so many half baked money making schemes that to many people fall into thinking that they have found “the magical pill” as it were to make their deep desires of freedom and Independence come true. Sorry folks its not like that, you need to learn what to do and then learn how to do it and a guide or a learning path such as Wealthy Affiliate or PotPieGirl advice are really good ways to go. If you need a place to start WA has everything you need! Oh yeah, and listen to Jennifer! I don’t know if you will post this post because of its length and because I am clearly rambling….at any rate congratulations on making it to Vegas and by the way did I mention you present yourself well and look good in the video…
(if I make it to Vegas next year will Kyle and Carson let me “not” be in the video??)
Cheers
Jonathan

PotPieGirl March 17, 2010 at 5:47 am

@ Jonathan – Honey, I am the QUEEN of Rambling – no problem! Thank you for your comment!

Funny thing about that video is that it was actually my SECOND take at my first try doing my own “spontaneous” video.

The first try, I just told my hubby to start the camera and I started talking. After a minute or so, this guy comes up behind my hubby (a stranger) and starts making faces at me.

Needless to say, I lost it. I tried really hard to keep it together, but I couldn’t do it.

I told the hubby to stop the camera…and thought, “Oh well, never mind – guess I’m not meant to do that stuff”.

We started walking and I’m talking to myself in my head (yes, I do that). I was mad at myself for NOT following thru with doing that video because it REALLY meant something to me.

So, I had the hubby turn the camera back on – and I did it again.

Good, bad, or Goober… I’m glad I did it. If I didn’t, I would’ve regretted it.

Thank you for your kind words – it means a lot!

Jennifer
~PotPieGirl

PS – WHEN you make it to Vegas next year, you have the CHOICE to make a video like the ones we each made inside the WA members area. You can say no – but don’t, you’ll do great!

Magriet du Plessis March 17, 2010 at 6:01 am

I can endorse WA. I learned a lot from them when I knew nothing, and I mean nothing! In South Africa, because of the weak Rand it does turn out a little expensive though.

For anyone that can afford it at all I will really recommend it very strongly. Without WA I would still have been about computer illiterate!

ADAMS March 17, 2010 at 8:24 am

Hi

Dont you think Warrior Room of Warrior Forum gives more info than WA…?

Can someone gives me some opinion on this?

Thanks

Vess March 17, 2010 at 10:03 am

I was a member of WA from 9/08-9/09. Unfortunately I didn’t put enough effort and I had to cease the membership due to lack of money. I hope to be back one day. I think WA is great, everything is laid out clearly and ingeniously for people who are willing to learn and work accordingly. Support service is also great.

Vess March 17, 2010 at 10:08 am

Adams, I never heard about Warrior Forum before, but now I will check it out. Thanx for the info.

Walt Deal March 17, 2010 at 10:18 am

Hi Jenifer
I am a former member of WA I could not make it work for me but that said I have not made any thing else work either I remember when you made a post what you would do with no money and no computer I still have a copy of that post I just joined your 1 week Marketing and I have gotten further with that than any thing I have ever accomplished now it is time I looked at WA again all of this by just following your teaching
I have not made any money yet I know it is out there
I could not get into selling but helping other people is what life is all about and now thanks to you
Boy I am going threw the same learning curvy You spoke of I just do not know how to quit and you would think after 70 something you would just set back and relax

Christopher March 17, 2010 at 11:33 am

Hey big goober,

You did fine in the video! If I wore a hat it would be off to you. Okay, you my be a bit of a newbie yourself but at least you are making money. It would be nice if I could say the same.

But it’s only a matter of time though because I’m following you.

Michael March 17, 2010 at 11:46 am

Jen,
What a waste for you NOT to have video in the beginning of your online campaigns. It is like Writers Digest JUST now coming to the realization of the internet as being more than an email service.

Kevin March 17, 2010 at 12:28 pm

I hear a lot about the wealthy affiliate program, the problem is that I have heard a lot about all the other programs I got involved in too and when I joined I never got anything out of them.

I am not one of those people that just sign up and never do anything, I try way to hard according to my fiance but I just cant seam to make any money.

L Easton March 17, 2010 at 2:51 pm

Jennifer,

You’ve got a great heart!

Dee March 17, 2010 at 3:28 pm

Jennifer, I loved the video and I am going to be just like you…when I grow up:)

I am a member of WA and of the Warrior Forum. I love them both, but I have to say that WA is my favorite. I have printed out so many PDF ebooks and instructions on how to do just about everything under the sun regarding IM. Tons of excellent information. And the keyword tool…oh my…hey it’s a beautiful thing.

Candice March 17, 2010 at 4:06 pm

Jennifer,
Thank you for sharing this video. And you’re right, this recession or whatever they want to call it is far from over and we hear the same story where we live.

People need hope and a way to equip themselves so they don’t have to rely on the government or family. Internet Marketing can definitely provide a way to do that.

Thanks again for all you’ve shared with us!

Anil March 17, 2010 at 4:14 pm

Hi Pot Pie Girl,

Straight to the matter. I’ve bought your OWM. I have been a one month member of WA. I’ve been following you from 2008. You’re my inspiration.

U’ve promoted WA before. But not this fiercely. But now you are, after your las vegas trip. Might be because now you’ve achieved so much WA have made you their ambassador. It sounds like tat. Yah, like a deal.

Anyways I am a Potpiegirl fan. Not WA’s.

Paula March 17, 2010 at 5:20 pm

I think this post is js just great and so genuine. I joined WA via yourself just a couple of weeks ago and so far it seems great and really good value for money – a real community behind new people.

And I’ve just started with the DAM way which is fab because it’s soooo to the point with action – really no excuses, and that’s what I need.

I love what you do Jennifer and it’s great that people like you can get together in WA because it focuses other people there too and fosters just such a genuine spirit of generosity and sharing … all while we’re making lives better for ourselves and each other.

Honestly, if we all commit to endowing our own little corner of the world with even a portion of what you do, our collective world will hold a happy and healthy future for everybody. Bless You :)

Hi Jennifer,
Thank yo for all the good insights you have posted and created. I am one of these Newbies still lost in space with all the stuff that is being offered and sold. Finally I got hooked in to purchasing a WebSite by auction, only to find out that this site can only be used in conjunction with Amazon and Adsense. That is alright in itself but the seller should have let me know that little tit-bit upfront.
I joined your free Squidoo – have not understood the instructions in how to start a Page.
Having made any money – definitely not. I am going to hang in there as you suggested – don’t quit.
Again many thanks for all the good information you have posted.

I heard Wealthy Affiliate was a great place to be about 3 and 4 years ago. Carson and Kyle would actually respond to a PM.

I was part of the wealthy affiliate community for over a year and learned as much as I possible could learn. There is no action based tools there that other IM communities have – like link building tools or article submitting tools.

For me WA is nothing but a giant forum where there is a lot of bad advice from people who aren’t walking the walk. If you do happen to find someone walking the walk, then don’t bother sending them a PM because they won’t respond.

I didn’t see why I should pay $39 a month for a forum where no one was offering any value.

Jennifer,
Your video is good and relevant to our country situation. But I think we shouldn’t let fear gripped our lifes so not to let it control our mind and action.
Thank you for your willingness to share the knowledge you’ve gathered to the people outside there and give people hopes that there is something they can do and not helpless.
I was a member of WA for a couple of months and I did find that WA is a real deal. I like Carson & Kyle and also find that WA is teaching something to anybody at any level. I also agree with the opinion that not all of the forum members will answer your PM, but in general let’s say 99.9% will respond to my PM. I even had personal email communication with Carson himself. I would say initially the PM is a two way communication between people that do not know each other and people would react to how you contact and respect them. Just unfortunate that I have to cancel my membership due to economic reason.
But I have learned a lot from WA and still following Jennifer & Travis’ blogs and tutoring sites. For sure I will join WA again, probably not for the unanswered PM but for the hosting service, tools, advices, friends which is worth more if I could buy them separately. Keep up the good work Jennifer.
Please forward my greetings to Kyle, Carson & Marcus when you see them. Cheers.

Hi Jennifer,

That’s a very moving video. I just got and read (and re-read your “Dam” Report, which looks really interesting.

Is there a place here where we can ask questions about it? Or do you have another place?

It’s mostly clear, but I have a couple of questions.
Thanks

I just sent you a letter about some personal things about me and at this moment I finished watching your video that you made in Las Vegas. I just got back from Vegas 10 days ago visiting my sister-in-law and family. While there we saw the Donnie and Marie show the day before her son’s death. Everyone I talked to, in-laws, dealers, cab drivers all said that business is off 40%. One pit boss said that it may be more than that. Anyway, I have been on your mailing list for quite a while now and you will see in my letter i think i am ready to make a move. You are very personable and easy to like and trust. At 72 years of age that is saying something for someone who has been had. By the way, reading ALL the comments over your dust up, I didn’t see one comment about the fact that a reviewer and competitor was commenting on your product. Total conflict of interest it seems to me. Why should she lean even slightly your way on anything? Just a thought. Looking forward to a relationship with you. I think people would like to see pictures of the baby. Thanks, Don in northern VA

Lovely Jennifer – a most timely video.

I’ve read free stuff, I’ve paid for stuff and I’m still struggling. Both with my own mindset (dang it anyway!) and the technology involved in IM (my true bug-a-boo).

Despite that though, the main thing is to pick 1 area to develop, act/act/act and then stick with it til it works. So while I am currently wobbling, I know I can make IM work for me.

I like exploring the suggestions/recommendations folks such as yourself make. If you don’t make them, then it’s possible they wouldn’t be found by me. Thus possible that I would miss something that could pop me over the big bump in the road.

Well, Jennifer, I, for one, really HOPE you wear a bulletproof vest if you go to a poker tournament!

We’d really love for you to stick around for a long, long time! LOL!

Great vid, btw. I’m hoping I can join WA within the next month or two.

Jennifer – there needs to be an award for the Most Honest and Upright Person in the Whole Internet – and the winner should be YOU. Thank goodness for you, you big non-goober, for speaking from the heart and being the person we can trust. I hope you know how much all us gumbies out here appreciate you.

Tom Cutter March 17, 2010 at 11:59 pm

Jennjifer,

I can’t get your link to thedamway.com to work.

Thanks,

It truly is a pleasure to be on your email list with all the good information you send out. Am truly happy to have gotten the “Dam Way” material as it will help understand the real way to get started. Have signed up and spent a lot of money on different money making (as they promised) but nothing worked out. When you don’t have the money to invest and purchase something, they never tell you there is excess costs to continue to make something work. Have looked into WA when you first sent information on OWM and referred to it, but at this time the monthly cost maybe worth it but the budget has no more room for it. Do appreciate your continued expert information being provided and hope to turn something into profit.

You LOOKED GREAT in the video and looked so at ease making it. Continue to do videos since you look so natural even though you were in a room that was depressing due to the economy. Enjoy your trip to Oregon and best in your husband’s new adventure.

I am relatively new to the internet marketing scene and it is hard for me to pay for something. There are so many scams out there it is hard to know what’s real anymore.

Phil March 18, 2010 at 11:04 am

Hi Jennifer,
Liked your video. I found your DAM Report very interesting – have one query re submitting article to Ezine: you refer to writing article on Notepad, but while I do think I have Notepad downloaded, I have never used it. However I have had to convert docs. to PDF form, and I was wondering whether it is possible to have an article converted to PDF form accepted by Ezine ? (This would be an easier option for me if feasible.)

Brett March 18, 2010 at 1:08 pm

Hi Jennifer,
I get where you are coming from. WA is a great place to learn the ropes, I was a member for a while. I found that I needed to learn by practice instead of theory, and I was spending way too much time studying instead of doing.

Great job on the video, you are for real and it shows.

I learned a great deal from OWM, in fact you gave me my first “AHA” moment!
You Rock!

Joe Carpet March 18, 2010 at 8:05 pm

I know wealthy affiliates is a good program, but wow it’s expensive. Maybe I’m just a little on the cheap side. I think using Wordpress effectively is the way to go.

dale March 18, 2010 at 9:12 pm

Hi everyone. Long time reader who lives in Las Vegas here. Just wanted to let everyone know what I experience here as a resident. For one thing, jobs are coming back, and spending at the retail location where I work has picked up in since last year. I think there is a slight upward trend for Vegas and I hope it reflects the path the country is on as a whole.

There have been a lot more places hiring and while there are still high unemployment rates, many of my friends have been able to get new jobs recently.

Thanks for showing it like it is, Jennifer! And thanks for being one of the people I credit with helping me get my first sales online.

Jennifer – if you would….
Give me some feedback on WA vs. Cour Tuttle’s Keyword Academy. I’m looking at both. Thanks!

Jennifer,
I have been a WA member since 10/09. The first month I was logging in and educating myself. Very excited about this. Then I was completely discouraged. WA is so big!! I logged in this week and I decided to find out why you are so successful. I am glad I did. You seem to simplify everything. I am going to read everything you have wrote because you really inspire me!!! Thank You Pot Pie Girl !! I hope to be half of what you have become!!

Thanks for making the video and sharing your thoughts. I think your success comes down to of course hard work but also very importantly you help others.

More successes to you in future!

Richard March 20, 2010 at 7:15 pm

Jennifer,

I don’t know if I’ll join Wealthy Affiliate but I can say I have purchased some of your products and have always felt you are an honest and decent Internet marketer.

Thanks for the video.

I always find time to return to http://www.PotPieGirl.com to learn from your genuine blogs and products.

Best Wishes

Hey Jennifer,

Thank you so much for The Dam Way and all the recent videos you have put up. I’ve been a member of WA for over a year and am now getting more out of it because of you and your “teachings”. I think i am finally ready to ‘go it alone’ and put your tremendous advice to work for me.

After being distracted by ‘shiny things’ all too often, I am only following you and 1 other internet marketer whom I have grown to trust and learning to trust myself because of your guiding influence.

Thanks again, and all the best to you.

Brett March 24, 2010 at 10:55 pm

Thanks for the Dam way,
Dam it! My woman can’t get the beaver references when I try to “splain it to her…She keep’s throwin chicken pot pies at me.

She don’t get it. Pot pie girl is payin’ the bills.

Love,
Brett

Jennifer, I have watched that video several times and it is so sad. Some of our Malls look that way!
I am working twice as hard to get something working for me on the internet so I can help myself survive for what ever is ahead!
Jennifer, has done more for me in such a short then any one else!

Dixie March 25, 2010 at 4:41 am

Hi Jennifer, The Damway was the one thing that helped me the most! Mercy, love that Beaver! Jennifer has such neat ideas!

After I worked the Damway along with Jennifer, I started to think about writing an article, scared, worried, but determined! I recieved a notice from Enzine and it said my article had been accepted and was featured in Enzine. I could not believe it and I sent it on to Jennifer right away! They also sent me links for buttons to put on my web site but I have not learned how to do that yet.

Now I want to do another article abour OWM after I read it again and write more article’s on my last domain that I used in The Damway!

If you have not tried Damway yet, I urge you to give it a try especially if you are new like me and living on a fixed income. :)

Jennifer never gave up on me even when I rambled on when I was trying to figure some thing out ! :)

Jennifer has the ability to sooth and urge you on without even realizing what she is doing, that is a real gift she has to help others! That is why I did not give up! I have barely scratched the tip of the iceburg, but it feels so warm and wonderful to know you can get just one thing to work..:)

Thank you again, Jennifer
Dixie

There’s truly a lot of difference between “recommend” and “promote”. Thanks for sharing this great experience of yours.

Rebecca Massey March 27, 2010 at 10:10 pm

Hi Jennifer, your Vegas video really touched me as I live here in Las Vegas & have been unemployed for over a year now. It is very sad here. We always heard Vegas was recession proof but I guess we were too cocky huh?
I also lost my house so not only am I with the 13.2% unemployed but I in the group of one of the hightest foreclosure cities in the country.
Would love the join WA but cannot afford it.
I left a comment on you Dam Way but I will say it again here-you are awesome and you make things souns so easy to follow.

Thanks, Becky

Lisa March 29, 2010 at 9:22 pm

I have your 1 week ebook and thought it would help. Even read that when you started you didn’t even know what a module was, but you know what? I still don’t know after reading all 5 pdf’s

Yeah, I’m quitting after 3 days on day 1.

Thanks

Master Dayton March 29, 2010 at 10:25 pm

Great post and good video. I think the hardest part is definitely starting from the very bottom and working your way up when you’re not even sure you’re on the right track yet. Getting that encouragement from people who “made it” is always a nice “pick me up.” Thanks for sharing.

Oyunlar March 29, 2010 at 10:49 pm

Very insightful and moving video Jennifer. Thanks for sharing.

Roymax April 6, 2010 at 4:01 pm

Jennifer, your video really hit home. Times are tough for not only me but for a lot of people out there like my dad who is only days away from losing his home to the bank. His credit is ruined and he is still working at 60 living in another state in some motel. Right now I have finally put my foot on the ground. Enough is enough!! I am working on my second article following the DAM way method you put together. I also have your OWM material. I have done marketing research for the last 4 years but have learned a whole lot more from you than anyone else. You give me inspiration and hope to stick with it. Thanks PotPieGirl for believing in us. One day I’m gonna shine.

Bill Layton April 13, 2010 at 8:19 pm

I have been a member of WA for just over two months and I think it has its ups and downs.

To the positive, there is lots of learning material there and it is set up in (sort of) an organized fashion for you to move through it systematically.

To the negative, I am still left with the impression that WA is all about promoting WA to new WA members so they can make affiliate income promoting WA to new affiliate members.

The problem with this model is that it is NOT niche marketing… the WA “niche” is pretty full, and why sell to a saturated market?

What disappoints me about WA is the lack of training materials on selling OTHER affiliate products, setting up affiliate websites and so on. That is why I joined, and the lack of good material in this regard is the reason I will likely drop the program at the end of this month.

The training materials are variable in their quality. While the first bunch I worked through were pretty good, I’ve found that the deeper I go the lower the quality tends to be. WA members are encouraged to put together their own tutorials, and, while some of these are excellent (Potpiegirls’ for example), many are a real waste of time, slapped together in a short time.

Don’t be afraid to join WA because if you don’t like it you can always quit. If you are a complete newbie you’ll get some good material to get yourself started, but sooner or later I think you’ll want to go somewhere else.

On the subject of Warrior Forum, I would recommend joining, there is so much information and, I find, a much greater sharing of information than on WA. And the senior members are incredibly knowledgeable on any subject you care to think of. Also lots of good downloads.

thanks!

Roymax April 15, 2010 at 12:46 pm

I’ve joined WA sometime last year. What I didn’t like about the 8 week course is that it was timed released and you couldn’t do it at your paste so you had to wait for the next module. I think I paid around 39 a month for the membership. What I like most about the site is the forum support I got there with people who answered some of my questions that I couldn’t really get anywhere else. I never got that with profitlance. The info is pretty much up to date. However, I was kind of over whelmed with all the information there which is why I got PotPieGirl’s One Week Marketing which is what I highly recommend for beginners. I recommend doing the DAM and OWM combination first before heading over to WA.
