Let me just say…..You know how to hit the nail on the head”……… Today I bought your OWM set. Believe it or not, I have read through the whole thing in just one day. Needless to say I am more confused that ever, but, I think once I let it settle in, I can start back at the beginning and make something work out of it.

I have been the “target” of alot of those marketing campaigns you’ve described here. I have bought a bunch of them too. The one thing I have to say is yours seems to have more practical *instructions* than the rest. Most of them talk in circles……..I know I am gonna need some help along the way and it’s good to know there are folks like you out there….

At this point, I am removing myself from all IM mailing lists that offer nothing but sales pitches over and over again. I don’t mind seeing the sales pitch (and sometimes will buy) if I at least get some quality content for free first. For those IM’ers who have not had the curtesy of using a ‘Remove me from your list’ type link, I simply block them. My time is too precious to waste reading content that is nothing but a sales pitch, and often a poor one at that.

Jennifer, I must say that I have never felt that way about your mailings, and open them right away, since they almost always brighten my day with new information or encouragement.

What used to get me the most was how all these “MULTI MILLION DOLLAR” a year Gurus were making ALL THAT MONEY per year, WHY would they need to CHARGE you some astronomical fee for their advice? At this point they should be doing more for FREE to help newbies and others trying to “make it online”. What…they can’t live on $10 or $20 MILLION a Year. I could live off the Interest on $1 million. (LOL)

If only someone could come up with a ‘blueprint’ step by step long term action plan then I think that would work. (thinks maybe that is what I should do?)
We newbies are so swamped with offers ideas information etc it is absolutely overwhelming and I am sure that is why most either give up or don’t make it and then give up. Just a little thought for all the gurus.

Reading your posts makes me feel normal. I spent so much time searching through emails and freebies, spending a bit here and there because I didn’t want to miss out. I didn’t want to be the only one “not getting it”.. whatever “it” was. There Had to be a secret in there somewhere.

My head hurt. My gut was full of anxiety much of the time because I wanted “it” so much.. I had petrified myself from taking action because it might be “wrong” and my dear spouse, who doesn’t really understand any of this, would wonder if I was done with this project yet. If not, then are we rich yet? What could I tell him?

The truth of the matter is that it takes time, effort , a system and patience with oneself;,the process, and the belief that there IS enough time.
A sense of humor doesn’t hurt. Thanks for your clear voice and not filling my inbox! I have to search for your emails. They bring value. Thanks…

I think we have all been there and the funny thing is that we either quit the game after spending way to much money or we’ll travel to “the other side” and end up being the ones sending out those emails (in one form or another).

Just like we’ll (strangely enough) all have to learn most of this the hard way I think that something is making us go though this process as well.

If we had a little more “backbone” we would just ignore the emails and not spent a dime that wasn’t a part of our overall plan (… oh, did we forget to plan?? *LOL* ).

As for myself I’ve traveled from wanting to buy it all, to being pissed to now collecting the emails because many of them are brilliant and I can use their techniques for selling my own (and others) stuff πŸ™‚

I signed up for every newsletter related to it, I even bought a few ebooks that promised to show me how to make a fulltime income using it.

At first I thought I had wasted a year of my life testing and failing, of the sites I created only 1 was making money and the total profit I made was $110 for the year. (that’s 0.30 per day).

Without that learning curve and change in the way I do business I wouldn’t be making what I am today. (5 figures).

Jen this is my first time reading your blog and I have to say, well done. Great writing style and advice. You’ve accomplished your goal, I have subscribed to your newsletter and I’m following you on Twitter πŸ™‚

Great post, really hit a nerve!

Most of the frustration for me is the constant barrage of emails from the same “group” that only ever want to sell something, rarely/never offer any free/helpful advice and all cross promote each other.

Those are quickly weeded out so that I can try to learn from the ones, like your good self, who balance teaching with selling…

that’s the model I feel comfortable with and try to follow.

So yes, learn from the ones you admire and unsubscribe from the ones you don’t. That helps to get rid of the negative feelings and reinforces the positive.

So for people still early on the learning curve, it can be useful. To some extent πŸ™‚
I learned one trick which is to selectively delete emails without reading. I could say ok I am going to read 2 and delete 8, so my mailbox got 10 empty spots. Or something like that. Depending on what I want to read at this moment. So I am the one deciding, not them.

I’ve been doing this for a while now! I’ve even felt that I was losing touch with my mind set when I first started out in IM and those memories were fading as I try to ponder on what I was thinking, why I opted in or bought a product, and how the process of a beginner had got me to where I am today. I had began paying closer attention to the how and why’s I opened, read, or trashed, and dumped a newsletter or opt in. In fact I have a spam alias account that I use for this purpose entirely lol. I opt in to anything I am even remotely interested in and let my curious george monkey out to play for the time being… paying close attention to what reasons I am opting in, why I read, and what makes me delete, opt out or totally ignore.
