Google Says We Type Too Slow
All day today I have been working within the Google search results. Everything seemed normal until tonight. I was searching for something and saw this crazy new tool appear on the Google search page. My first thought was, “What are they doing NOW?!?!”…haha! Turns out that Google has decided we searchers type too slowly. To fix that, Google has now begun the roll-out of a new search enhancement technology called Google Instant.
New Google Search Tool
As I said, I was searching in Google most of the day. Tonight, I started a search and I saw this on my Google search page that appeared as I started typing:
Google Instant? What the heck is THAT?
So I clicked the “learn more” link and started to read about Google’s latest search enhancement designed to make our lives more eupohoric and weightless (at least that’s what the blue bar said…..lol)
What IS Google Instant?
Google wants to get their searchers to the information they want faster than ever AND they don’t want to wait on these searchers to type their search phrase out.
Google says that people read quickly, but type slowly…so they’re gonna do the typing FOR you and save you 2-5 seconds for each search you do.
You don’t even have to hit “enter” to get your results.
As you type, Google starts suggesting keywords (cough cough hint hint has ANYONE been reading my emails???? cough cough hint hint), you pick one and the search results instantly change.
It’s crazy… you start typing, some suggestions start to show and if you use your down arrow the Google search results magically change for each suggested search phrase you scroll to.
Is Google Instant Showing For You?
...pardon the interruption,
but this is an amazing free opportunity...

If you’re not seeing this new time-saving, SEO-community fear-invoking technology, don’t worry – it’s coming soon. Google claims it will take a couple days for Google Instant to be available to everyone on Google.com.
Google Instant is starting to roll-out to users on Google domains in the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Russia who use the following browsers: Chrome v5/6, Firefox v3, Safari v5 for Mac and Internet Explorer v8. Please note, users on domains other than Google.com can only access Google Instant if they are signed in to a Google Account. We will continue to add new domains and languages over the next several months.
Will Google Instant Change the Search Results?
No, Google Instant will not have any impact on the ranking of web pages in the Google index, BUT Google Instant will have an impact on how people search and what they search for (cough cough hint hint has ANYONE read my latest emails? cough cough).
While searchers still can search on Google the “old-fashioned” way – type your phrase and click enter – I think the majority of searches will come from the Google Instant suggestions.
People will no longer have to think and type what they want to find, Google will do it for them.
Google gave these interesting stats on their Google Instant info page:
11 hours saved every second if everyone used Google Instant globally.
11 hours saved every second so people no longer have to think or type for themselves.
What do YOU think? Has Google Instant been activated for you? Have you tried it? What do you think? How do you feel about Google rankings now? What changes do you think will happen as Google Instant gets used more and more?
