5 Gallon Bucket Garden Stand – DIY Instructions, Materials List + Video
Ever since I shared all my flower bed design ideas, I’ve been all about gardening – I want to GROW food! I know, that’s a BIG undertaking with my not-even-a-little-bit green thumb haha!
I came across the ideas of growing vegetables in 5-gallon buckets on Pinterest (of course!) and thought it was a super cool idea – much easier than tilling up my cement-hard dirt and trying to turn it into suitable soil to grow stuff!
Then I saw DIY stands you can make to hold your 5-gallon buckets and I was hooked… ok, obsessed with the idea of making one.
I found a really helpful video tutorial plus lots of ideas for the type of stand you can make.
Here’s what you need to make a 5-gallon bucket garden stand:
2×4’s Needed:
55 Inches: 7 pieces
52 Inches: 1 piece
31 Inches: 4 pieces
25 ½ Inches: 4 pieces
19 Inches: 2 pieces
12 Inches: 2 pieces
Other Items Needed:
2 ½ Inch Screws
Drill/Impact Driver
Tape Measure
Saw
Square (optional)
Clamps (optional)
Paint (optional)
Here are the basic steps to build a 5-gallon bucket garden stand:
Gather and Cut Materials: Obtain several 2x4s and cut them into specific lengths: seven pieces at 55 inches, one at 52 inches, four at 31 inches, four at 25.5 inches, two at 19 inches, and two at 12 inches.
Prepare Tools and Hardware: You’ll need a saw to cut the wood, a drill or impact driver, 2.5-inch screws, and a tape measure. Optional helpful tools include a square, clamps, and paint (if not using pressure-treated wood).
Assemble Side Pieces: Construct the side frames by attaching two 31-inch vertical pieces to one 12-inch top crosspiece, a 25.5-inch middle piece, another 25.5-inch bottom piece, and a 19-inch piece for the front leg.
Construct the Main Frame: Attach the 55-inch 2x4s across the front, back, top, and bottom to connect both side pieces. Place the 52-inch piece inside the frame for additional support.
Install Bucket Supports: Attach the remaining two 55-inch pieces where the buckets will sit. Make sure they are positioned to prevent the buckets from leaning.
Place Buckets: Once the frame is complete, add your new, clean 5-gallon buckets. Ensure they are stable and secure.
Optional Finishing Touches: If desired, paint or stain the structure, especially if you used non-pressure-treated wood. Use high-quality outdoor screws to ensure durability against weather conditions.
Easy enough, right?
